Shipping: Print will be carefully rolled and securely packaged in a sturdy mailing tube designed for artwork and posters to help protect against bending, creasing, rips, or tears during transit.
Beautiful French Chalcographie du Louvre print after Jean-Antoine Watteau, engraved by Auguste Péquégnot. Printed in a warm red/sanguine tone on substantial textured paper, the composition features an elegant Rococo-style pastoral scene surrounded by elaborate scrolling floral and shell ornament.
The sheet bears the distinctive embossed “Musée du Louvre – Chalcographie” blind stamp and is printed “Watteau” at lower left and “Péquégnot” at lower right, along with the plate number 3. A printer/publisher inscription is also present along the lower margin.
This is an authentic Louvre Chalcographie impression from an engraved plate, rather than a modern photographic poster. The Chalcographie du Louvre was established in 1797 and preserves historic engraved copperplates used for the production of fine-art impressions.
Sheet measures approximately 16” x 13” based on the photographs. Printed area is approximately 11” x 9”. Unframed.
Vintage/pre-owned condition with age-related toning, scattered spotting/foxing, light surface marks and wear along the deckled/irregular sheet edges. Please review all photographs carefully as they form part of the condition description.
An attractive piece for collectors of Louvre Chalcographie prints, Watteau, French engravings, Rococo art, 18th-century-inspired décor, or European fine art prints.
