Pierre Gusman – La Salute, Venise – Chalcographie du Louvre Etching
Beautiful large-format French fine-art impression of La Salute, Venise by French artist and engraver Pierre Gusman (1862–1942), depicting the Venetian waterfront with gondolas, sailing vessels and the domes of Santa Maria della Salute.
The print is identified along the lower margin “LA SALUTE, VENISE,” “CHALCOGRAPHIE DU LOUVRE,” and “EAU-FORTE ORIGINALE DE P. GUSMAN.” It also bears the prominent embossed Musée du Louvre – Chalcographie blind stamp beneath the image.
The Musée du Louvre collection records Gusman’s original copperplate for La Salute, Venise under inventory number 6919 C. The work was executed using etching and burin engraving.
Printed in black on substantial cream-colored fine-art paper with deckled edges. The sheet measures approximately 22” × 15”. Unframed.
A handwritten “6919” appears along the sheet edge, corresponding to the Louvre’s 6919 catalogue/inventory reference for this plate. The paper also bears an ARCHES FRANCE watermark/embossed paper mark.
Please note that while the original plate is by Pierre Gusman and belongs to the Louvre Chalcographie, the exact printing date of this particular impression has not been established. I would therefore not advertise the sheet itself as an antique or as a lifetime impression by Gusman.
Pre-owned condition with light age/storage wear and natural irregularities along the deckled edges. Please review all photographs closely for condition.
An excellent piece for a collection of Louvre Chalcographie prints, French etchings, Pierre Gusman, Venice art, Italian cityscapes, maritime art or European architectural prints.
