Beautiful vintage Danish Scandinavian hunting-themed embroidered wall hanging featuring traditional European game birds and animals, displayed from ornate dark-patinated metal hanging bars with oak-leaf detailing.
The long textile sampler depicts a wonderful series of individually embroidered hunting motifs including crossed shotguns with a stag trophy, mallard duck (Gråand), wood pigeon (Ringdue), partridge (Agerhøne), woodcock (Skovsneppe), hare, pheasant (Fasan), roe deer (Rådyr) and a hunting dog.
Roughly 43” inches in length.
The Danish names are embroidered beneath the individual animals, with numbers appearing to represent traditional recommended shot sizes for various game. This makes the piece especially interesting as both folk needlework and vintage European hunting decor.
Finished with green geometric borders and colorful woodland/floral details throughout. The sampler is mounted between ornate metal bars with an elaborate circular hanging loop at the top.
Personally sourced from a vintage market in the Netherlands. The Danish-language embroidery suggests Danish origin or design, although the exact maker and date are unknown.
Wonderful decor for a hunting lodge, cabin, country home, library, study or traditional European-inspired interior.
Condition: Good vintage condition with age-related wear, patina and oxidation to the metal hardware and some natural age/wear to the textile. Please review photographs carefully for condition.
