Antique Calder Pewter Porringer, Flowered Handle, Providence RI

This small antique pewter porringer has a pierced flowered handle and a rounded bowl with a raised center boss inside. The handle is stamped CALDER with an eagle touchmark, and the partial lettering below appears to read PROVID. That matches William Calder of Providence, Rhode Island, who worked from 1817 to 1856, so the piece likely dates to the 1800s.

Porringers were once used to serve porridge and soft foods. Today this one works best as a display piece or a catch-all for keys, rings, candy or small treasures. It looks right at home on a shelf, a bookcase or a farmhouse table beside old books and crystals. It is sold as a decorative collectible, not for food use.

The pewter has a soft gray patina, and the cut-work handle has real presence. This is a nice piece of early American metalware for a collector, and it would also make a warm housewarming gift for someone who loves colonial style.

Measurements and condition

Bowl diameter: [add] in

Overall length with handle: [add] in

Height: [add] in

Weight: [add] oz

Material: pewter

Marks: CALDER with eagle touchmark on the handle, partial PROVID lettering appears below

Condition: good antique condition with light wear.
