Beautiful vintage Indian Dhokra-style brass and copper decorative bowl featuring exceptionally detailed traditional folk metalwork.
5.5” diameter
The piece combines a warm copper center basin with an elaborate brass/bronze-tone surround decorated with intricate openwork, raised beadwork, rope-like borders, repeating geometric motifs and a dramatic pointed outer edge.
The richly textured construction is characteristic of traditional Dhokra/Dokra metalwork, an Indian craft associated with the ancient lost-wax casting process. Dhokra artisans have historically produced both sculptural and functional objects, including vessels, bowls, lamps, jewelry and decorative objects.
The removable/set-in copper-colored center creates a beautiful contrast against the darker aged metalwork surrounding it. The piece could be displayed as a decorative bowl, catchall, trinket dish, jewelry dish or collectible Indian folk-art object.
