Beautiful early 20th-century European brass TABAK tobacco jar / tabakspot, sourced from an antique shop in the Netherlands.
Likely dating to approximately the 1920s–1940s, this substantial lidded canister was originally made for storing loose tobacco. The front features raised “TABAK” lettering — the Dutch word for tobacco — surrounded by an embossed repeating shell/palmette motif. A domed fitted lid is finished with an ornamental finial.
The underside bears an impressed circular maker’s monogram, shown clearly in the photographs. While the piece is maker-marked, the manufacturer has not been conclusively identified, so it is being offered without a specific maker attribution.
The brass has developed a wonderful naturally darkened patina with warm golden areas showing through, giving the piece a particularly beautiful old-world appearance. It has not been aggressively polished, preserving its aged character.
