Complete 4-volume vintage Soviet Russian dictionary set by Vladimir Dal (Владимир Даль), Толковый словарь живого великорусского языка — “Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language.”
Published in Moscow by Русский язык (Russkiy Yazyk / Russian Language) from 1978–1980, this is the complete four-volume 7th edition of one of the most important and celebrated dictionaries of the Russian language.
The complete set includes:
Volume I — А–З — 1978
Volume II — И–О — 1979
Volume III — П
Volume IV — Р–Ѵ — 1980
Dal’s monumental dictionary contains approximately 200,000 words, including literary and regional Russian vocabulary, terminology relating to traditional trades and professions, and approximately 30,000 proverbs and sayings.
Beautiful matching burgundy/red hardcovers feature ornate metallic decorative detailing along the spines, making the complete set especially attractive for display in a library, study or vintage book collection.
One volume contains a handwritten Russian inscription dated September 7, 2003, adding some personal provenance to the set. The inscription appears to be a personal dedication rather than an author’s signature.
Please note that although an 1881 date appears on a reproduced historical title page inside the books, these are the later Moscow 1978–1980 editions and are not books printed in 1881.
