Beautiful vintage boxed set of 12 etched glass/crystal knife rests, designed for an elegant formal table setting.

Personally purchased from an antique market in the Netherlands.

Each rectangular rest is made from thick clear glass with beveled edges and delicate frosted etched decoration resembling bamboo leaves and stylized floral/star motifs. The complete set of twelve is housed in its original long fitted presentation case with individual compartments, textured faux-bois exterior and fabric-lined lid.

Two rests retains a small red-and-white maker/retailer label or monogram, shown clearly in the photographs. The exact maker and country of manufacture have not been identified.

Traditionally known as knife rests or French porte-couteaux, these were placed beside individual place settings to support used table knives and protect the tablecloth between courses.

Condition: Vintage pre-owned condition with age-related surface wear and marks. The original case shows noticeable wear, staining, scuffs and deterioration to portions of the interior lining. Glass pieces may have minor surface scratches and edge wear consistent with age and use- no major cracks or chips.
