Charming vintage European wall-mounted coat rack / double hook hanger, circa 1950s–1960s, featuring two ornate figural brass-tone hooks mounted on a rich red velvet-covered panel.
Each beautifully detailed hook depicts a romantic man and woman / courting couple in relief, surrounded by scrolling and floral ornamentation. The curved hooks extend outward for hanging coats, hats, scarves, towels, jewelry or other accessories.
The rectangular panel is upholstered in deep crimson red velvet and finished with decorative woven trim around the edges. Two original-style triangular hanging loops on the reverse allow the piece to be mounted to a wall.
This piece was personally sourced from an antique market in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Similar European brass-and-velvet coat racks with figural male and female decoration have been attributed to the mid-20th century, particularly the 1950s–60s. Exact maker and country of manufacture are unknown.
The combination of aged metal, deep red velvet and romantic figural decoration gives this piece a wonderful European Old World / French Country / Hollywood Regency / eclectic maximalist appearance.
Condition: Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. The metal hooks have natural oxidation, patina and surface wear, particularly toward the ends of the hooks. The velvet shows some age-related wear, impressions and variation, and the reverse fabric has minor marks. Please review all photos carefully for condition.
