This finely cast bronze sculpture is attributed to Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom in Tibetan and Nepalese Buddhist tradition. Manjushri is traditionally depicted holding a raised sword, symbolizing the cutting away of ignorance and illusion l, a defining and highly recognizable iconographic element present in this piece.
The figure is shown seated on a lotus base, adorned with an ornate crown, jewelry, and flowing garments, indicating bodhisattva status rather than a Buddha figure. The facial expression is serene and composed, consistent with Himalayan Buddhist bronze work. The sculpture displays a rich aged patina, surface wear, and casting characteristics consistent with older Tibetan or Nepalese devotional bronzes, likely dating to the 20th century or earlier.
